Dave and Cathy Cortese planted this beautiful vineyard in Coombsville to Syrah beginning in 1989. It is North-facing with incredibly rocky, thin volcanic soils. Magically, it has the elements to make Syrah thrive - those of its origins in the Rhone Valley - wind, a steep hillside, and a cool cimate. These are not easy elements to find in Napa Valley, and we are extremely excited to have begun making Scarpa Syrah from this vineyard starting in 2018.
