We love Syrah and have been making it since 2003, but Scarpa's first vintage was 2008, when we brought the Rhone varietal program back to Napa Valley from Sonoma and Mendocino sources. We have always believed that "Syrah likes a view" and have worked with a number of Napa Valley hillside Syrah sources over the years to make this cuvée: Versant, Krupp Brothers, Stagecoach, Phoenix Ranch, and now Cortese. Our goal has always been to make Syrah from cooler vineyard sites that allow its natural characteristics and wild, aromatic nature to shine through.
