This is our third year working with the fabulous fruit from the Klopp family’s small vineyard south of Sebastopol. After a wonderful growing season, the fruit was harvested on August 22nd in fantastic condition, alleviating any smoke concerns. As usual, the fruit was sorted on the way to the press and whole-cluster pressed on a long, slow cycle giving us only the cleanest juice. After settling overnight the wine was racked to 2 French oak barrels, one new and one older, for native yeast fermentation. The wine has turned out beautifully, with huge aromatics of lemon, lime zest, orange oil, sage, yellow flowers, and a hint of fennel frond. On the palate, the wine shows the energy characteristic of this vineyard, carrying the intense and focused flavors through to a long, elegant finish.
