The 2019 growing season was the perfect compliment to the fruity, fresh 2018 vintage, bringing similar elements, yet a touch more power to the 2019 Ritual. The blend came together easily, resulting in a wine of compelling harmony and suave richness. The color is a deep ruby red, with flashes of purple and an almost black core. Aromatics of cola, bing cherry, blackberry, blood orange, jasmine, white pepper and sage blast from the glass. The palate is extra juicy this year, with a flamboyant personality and the most refined tannins ever for this cuvée, allowing the layered finish to resonate and blossom.
An interesting blend of 38% Carignan, 23% Syrah, 18% Syrah, 10% Petite Sirah, and the rest Charbono and Mourvèdre, 2019 Ritual Red Blend is darker and peppery, with medium-bodied richness and depth and well as silky tannins. I love its overall balance, and it’s a singular effort, with a mix of darker cherry and berry fruits as well as violets, herbal, and floral nuances. It should drink well for at least 7-8 years.
A blend of 38% Carignan, 23% Syrah, 18% Grenache, 10% Charbono, 10% Petite Sirah and 1% Mourvèdre, aged in larger, previously used barrels, the 2019 Ritual Heritage Blend offers up a complex herb-tinged mix of black cherries and blackberries. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it delivers ample depth and tannins, with a long, earth and mocha-inflected finish.
Aromas of baked red fruit and berries, crushed thyme and red licorice. Full-bodied with silky tannins. Bright acidity and fresh character on the palate. A tasty blend of grenache, carignan, syrah, petite sirah and charbono. Drink or hold.
