We are truly excited to release our first vintage of Moulds Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Steve and Betsy Moulds have been great friends of ours since we first met 20 years ago when they were planting their vineyard. Their joyful, sincere, intelligent personalities provide the perfect combination for passionate, detailed viticulture, and the results show in their beautifully manicured vineyard on the slopes of Oak Knoll in Napa Valley. We work with clones 169 and 685, providing complexity and completeness in the wine. The jubilant nose is full of blueberry, blackcurrant, pencil lead, sage and dark chocolate notes. The palate is lithe and extremely supple with a fluidity and a layered texture lending depth to the blue and red fruit flavors. The finish is framed by the finest tannins, giving the wine energy and drive as the finish fans out.
Classic cool-climate Cabernet herbal notes as well as plenty of charcoal, graphite, and tobacco emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Moulds Vineyard. Reminding me of a great Saint-Julien, it’s medium to full-bodied and has terrific purity as well as ultra-fine tannins. All Cabernet aged 21 months in new barrels, this beauty is going to evolve gracefully for 20 years or more.
Juicy and open, with a range of sassafras, sweet bay leaf, anise, boysenberry and blackberry aromas and flavors that race along, with a slightly brambly edged structure carrying the finish. Shows good energy throughout. Drink now through 2030.
Blackberries, plums, forest-floor, cloves, violets and cigar box on the nose. Full body with velvety tannins. Fruity and fleshy with a rich core of black fruit and a spicy-chocolate edge. Delicious finish. Drink or hold.
