Perched high above Oakville to the east, this great block of Cabernet Sauvignon sits on the southern slopes of Pritchard hill. The rocky, igneous Hambright soils are a deep red with flashes of an almost purple hue. The suitcase Wiemer clone Cabernet ripens slowly in this extreme climate, making a singular wine with a powerful yet lush, smooth and refined character. The raw mountain personality is present, but there is just so much elegance. The color is possibly the deepest of our 2018 Cabs, almost black to the rim, with touches of deep, bright red. Aromatics are quintessential Cabernet Sauvignon, with black, red and blue fruit notes jumping from the glass in concert with exotic spice, crushed rock, mineral and sage notes. On the palate, the wine shows adept balance with everything in proportion, showing sweet, ripe fruit flavors that are juicy as well as deep. The finish is full of graceful tannins that provide length and intensity, allowing the flavors to blossom.
