The Cortese Vineyard is one of the many gems in our portfolio, planted beginning in 1989 to a variety of Syrah clones on extremely rocky north-facing slopes in Coombsville. The volcanic soils bring extra sanguine iron notes to the wine, resulting in huge varietal character and explosive aromatics. Look for notes of blackberry, cracked black pepper, black olive, violet, bacon fat and dried rosemary on the nose. The palate is rich and layered, with concentrated flavors echoing the bouquet and carried by just the right amount of acidity.
