The Prior, in our minds, has always been our paean to a mythical creature: Cabernet Franc in the style of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, unfolding it’s ripe-fruited character in waves of aromatic minerality, powerful fruit and rich depth. In 2015, a warm year in Napa Valley, these nearly dry-farmed vines, planted in gravelly volcanic alluvial deposits at the Frediani Vineyard have provided just that. Aromatics of dark cherry, raspberry confiture, talc, hot stones, vanilla-laced cookie and bbq spice fill the glass. When the palate hits you, it is with a powerful impression of structure and rich density, mouthcoating sweet fruit and lush tannins.
