Clearly, there is a movement going on, and Cab Franc is HOT! The secret is out - Cabernet Franc can deliver the power and density of Cabernet Sauvignon, but with added aromatics, minerality, and a lifted fruit profile. Ironically, this is our smallest release of The Prior ever, due to the tiny yields of 2021. This is delicious stuff from the deep, gravel-pit soils of Frediani Vineyards at the end of the Simmons Canyon alluvial fan. You'll find a nose chock full of raspberry, cherry pie, bramble, dry slate, with floral notes and a hint of pink peppercorn.
The 2021 Cabernet Franc The Prior is mostly Cabernet Franc from a site off the Silverado Trail, not far from Eisele Vineyard. Aged 21 months in new barrels, it has a solid perfume of red and black fruits, spice, pressed flowers, and hints of chocolate. These all carry to the palate, where the wine is medium to full-bodied and has an elegant, silky texture, supple tannins, and a great finish. It's a classic, incredibly impressive expression of Cabernet Franc to enjoy over the coming 15+ years.
